About SkillShare

People around a table

SkillShare empowers professionals to assist Not-For-Profit groups, by applying their skills and experience to complete specific Projects which build the long term capacity of the community group.

SkillShare is entirely operated and resourced by Volunteers, who have all completed a comprehensive interview and induction process, and are all dedicated to the core capacity bulding focus of the Projects we choose to support. For example, our Volunteers could help to develop a fundraising strategy, but will not assist with direct fundraising activities.

All SkillShare Projects are supported by a trained Monitor, whose role is to ensure each Project is completed as initially agreed by all parties.

If you would like to register as a Volunteer or are involved with a Not-For-Profit who would like to propose a capacity building Project, please register online today or alternatively you can contact us on e-mail with any questions you may have.

History

Oxfam SkillShare was established in 1999, under Community Aid Abroad, which was later renamed Oxfam Australia. The program was established in Melbourne by a group of Community Aid Abroad volunteers who had participated in a Community Leadership Program.

The group had two broad aims:
- to provide an avenue for Oxfam Australia supporters and other like-minded people to support community development and activities aimed at achieving social justice, welfare and environmental benefits.
- to support local grass roots community organisations working in areas which Oxfam Australia is philosophically linked.

Since this time, SkillShare has assisted over 100 Not-For-Profit organisations with the professional skills and experience of over 150 skilled Volunteers.

Proudly supported by Oxfam Australia

SkillShare team members are committed to supporting Oxfam’s core vision of a world without poverty. Similarly, our values are to be:
- empowering
- passionate
- inclusive
- ingeniuous
- authoritative.

SkillShare is funded by Oxfam Australia and receives ongoing support as required.
SkillShare Management Team meetings and events are conducted at Oxfam Australia Headquarters in Carlton, Melbourne.

Vision

Our vision is to:

  • assist Not-For-Profits to build their own capacity by gaining access to the professional skills they need, organised around specific Projects they have initiated;
  • provide a broader range of opportunities for people to participate in social change and to expand their knowledge of the community sector by acting as skilled Volunteers.

What Sets Us Apart

  • All SkillShare Volunteers have been interviewed and completed a thorough induction program.
  • We are willing to work with Not-For-Profits who do not have DGR status, which means we can help almost any community group who is trying to positively impact our communities and who is committed to building their groups capacity.
  • SkillShare Projects are all supported by a SkillShare Monitor who assists with ensuring each Project runs smoothly.
